Regency Bridge

July 26, 2008 | Regency Bridge

The Regency Bridge is one the last few suspension bridges left in Texas, and the only one you can still drive your car over. Known as the Swinging Bridge, it was built in 1939 and then rededicated in 1999 after restoration. It crosses the Colorado River and connects Mills County to San Saba County.

The neat thing about the bridge is that its really out in the middle of nowhere. Paved roads have long since bypassed the bridge and from the direction we came (Mills County side) we had to drive down several miles of dirt road. You start thinking, no way is there a bridge out here and then all of sudden...there it is.

My Dad and I drove here on our way from Goldthwaite to San Saba taking courthouse photos. The last time he crossed this bridge was about fifty years ago with his father. It was pretty cool and I have no doubt I'll be back one day.
