 August 12, 2008 | Texas State Capitol Building While I was in Travis County taking a photograph of my 36th courthouse, I thought I might as well take one of my first state capitol building. I saved the best for first… U.S. State Capitol Project #1: Texas Austin, Texas Constructed: 1882 – 1888 Texas: From the Caddo word “taysha”, which means “friend”. The Spanish used this word, spelling it “Tejas”, to refer to the Caddo Nation and eventually the entire area west of the Sabine River and north of the Rio Grande. Austin: Named for the “Father of Texas”, Stephen F. Austin.
