![]() December 02, 2008 | Light Show Venus, Jupiter and the Moon put on a show tonight as the three brightest objects in the night sky made a kind of close encounter that won't happen again for almost fifty years. Venus sits below the moon and Jupiter to the right. Jupiter is about 500,000,000 miles away, but if you look closely you can even see three of Jupiter's moons. Below is an enlargement of Jupiter with what I believe are three of the four Galilean moons, Europa and Ganymede on the left and Callisto on the lower right. The shot above was taken with the 40D and the close up of Jupiter was with the digital zoom from my PowerShot. ![]() |
